Welcome to Year 1

Our PE lessons take place on a Monday afternoon and Wednesday morning. Children should come to school wearing their PE kits on those days, they do not need a change of clothes.

We are developing our speaking and listening skills as well as our reading and writing skills. Each half term we study a class book which allows us to explore lots of different writing styles as well as talking about what we have read. We are working hard to write sentences with capital letters, finger spaces and full stops and are beginning to add descriptive words to make them more exciting!
Phonics Screening Test
The children have been working hard to learn all of their letters and sounds, using them to blend and segment phonetically real and fake words. All the children in Year 1 across the country take part in a phonics screening test in June to assess their phonics understanding. The testing will take place during the week beginning 11th June 2018. Please continue to read with your children to help them become more confident with their phonics.
