Welcome to Year 2
In Class 2 we work hard but we like to have fun in our lessons too. We use songs, raps and rhymes to remember new things! We hope you enjoy looking at what we have been doing.

In class we use knowledge mats to help us with our learning. Spellings and times tables will be sent home each week and will be tested each Friday. Please continue to listen to your child read at least three times per week and sign in their reading record. Remember – parents can record any book in the reading record – not just those sent home from school!
Below are the Common Exception words for Year 2. Children should be able to read and spell these words by the end of the year.
PE in Class 2 is on a Monday afternoon and the children can come to school wearing their PE kits that day, they do not need a change of clothes.
We enjoyed our Hoopstarz session in Autumn Term. The children’s hooping skills are so impressive!
Science – Life Cycles
We have been learning about animals and humans. We learnt about life cycles, the basic needs of animals and how humans grow. We then learnt about how to keep our bodies healthy.
Art – Clay Healthy Food Plates
We found out about different food types and in Art we made our own healthy meal out of clay.
We loved painting our healthy meals and talking about the vegetables, protein and carbohydrate!
PSHE – Giraffes Can’t Dance
Year 2 read the story, ‘Giraffes Can’t Dance’. It helped us to think about how we are all different and good at different things. In the story, different animals dance in lots of different ways. Their dancing inspired us to go outside and dance ourselves. We practised the waltz, tango, cha cha cha, rock and roll, the Scottish reel and then our favourite styles of dancing. What a wonderful way to spend a Friday afternoon!
African Activities Day
We were very lucky to be visited by Kwaku to experience a wonderful day of African Culture! We used African drums, wore African clothes, learnt some African dance moves and had a go at some traditional African Adinkra printing.
Christmas Themed Science Investigation
To develop our Scientific investigation skills, we carried out an investigation to find out which liquid would dissolve a candy cane the quickest. We loved watching the candy canes dissolve and discovered that the hot water was the quickest. We were amazed that the candy cane in the oil did not dissolve at all and we still have it on our windowsill as the children were keen to keep watching to see if anything ever changed!!
As part of our Science topic, we continued to develop our investigation skills by investigating which material was the most absorbent. We put red food colouring into some water and then used a pipette to squeeze 10 drops of water (to make sure it was a fair test!) onto each material to see which ones absorbed the water.
