Welcome to Year 2!
In Class 2 we work hard but we like to have fun in our lessons too. We use songs, raps and rhymes to remember new things! We hope you enjoy looking at what we have been doing.

Year 2 SATS
In the summer term, children at the end of Key Stage 1 will sit new SATs papers. That means that if your child is in Year 2, they will be among the first pupils to take the new test. SATs have been overhauled in both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 to reflect the changes to the national curriculum, which was introduced from September 2014.
We have added information to help parents, carers and pupils understand the Year 2 SATS process.
This year, the KS1 SATs will take place during the week commencing 6th May.
For the first week of the year, the whole school looked at Royal Families through history. Class 2 focused on Queen Victoria and we enjoyed learning about her life, her family and her huge empire!
In Autumn 1, we looked at ‘The Place Where I Live’. We learnt more about where we live and used maps to identify what is nearby. We focused on our village of Esh, what we liked about it and how we thought it could be improved.
In Autumn 2, our topic was ‘Fighting Fit’ and we thought about how we could look after our bodies by eating healthily and doing exercise. We also enjoyed an Art week where we learnt about Georges Seurat and Pointillism. We ended our half term with a wonderful production of Stable Boy.
In Spring 1, we learnt all about the Great Fire of London.
In Spring 2, we loved learning all about Neil Armstrong and his trip to the moon.
In Summer 1, we learnt all about plants and how they grow.
We hope you enjoy looking at some pictures of what we have been doing so far this year…
We learnt about different body parts by drawing round our body and labelling different parts.
We loved celebrating their baptism with some of our friends.
We loved being outside on a ‘senses walk’!
We used cotton buds to produce Pointilism artwork!
We had a special visit from the elves from the Once Upon a Christmas production. They came to visit us in school for a special toy-making workshop – we even made it into the newspaper! A few weeks later, we went to visit them at the Gala and watched them perform and even got to go onto the stage afterwards to see the secret glitter drawer!
During Music Week, we worked with Mrs Walker to learn how to play notes on the keyboard.
As part of our Fire of London topic, we had a special visit from the Fire Engine. We got to use the hose and sit inside the fire engine!
We enjoyed a taster session from All Stars Cricket:
