Year 2

Welcome to Year 2

This area contains helpful information and reminders. It will also be updated regularly throughout the year with photos and updates about what we get up to as part of our learning journey.

Year 2 Staff

Our class teachers are Mrs Kitson and Mrs Jameson.

Mrs Kitson has 2 sons, aged 13 and 17, and she enjoys running and climbing. She loves reading, Jane Austen and Stephen King are her favourite authors, she is a vegetarian and is very passionate about protecting the environment and conserving our wildlife. She also plays the drums and punk is her favourite music – punk shows are the best fun.

Mrs Jameson loves exploring places in her touring caravan. Also, she shares a dog called Reggie with her friend Val. He is a Jack Russell. She also loves collecting vintage plates and crockery.

We are also supported in our learning by Miss Carey.
Miss Carey loves animals – all animals! – especially her cat Birnie. He’s a rescue cat and sadly has only one eye but she’s been lucky enough to have him in our family for many years now.  He’s such a character and knows lots of commands,he’s like a cat/dog really!
Wildlife conservation is also very important to her. It’s vital to ensure our future generations can enjoy the natural world and all the fascinating species that live within it. Art is also one of her passions. She was lucky enough to be able to work with disadvantaged people in a voluntary capacity several years ago.
In Class 2 we expect the children to:
Show respect for others by listening when they talk and looking at them to show they have our attention.
We also always try our best – even when things are hard. That is when we are learning the most!
Use good manners, these are free and are a way of showing respect.
And, importantly, we always smile at others! Being a friendly face can make someone’s day happier and brighter and makes out class a happy and bright place to be!

Homework

Children should be reading as regularly as possible throughout the week (at least 3 times) with an adult and ensure it is recorded in their reading records. Children will have a phonics book that will reflect their phonics level that they should be able to read fluently. They will also have a library book that is for ‘reading for pleasure’ and can be shared with their family at home.

Books are to be returned to school each Friday.

Spellings for each week will be shared so that children can practise spelling words containing the spelling rule at home.
